Home Security Checklist

the

Do you remember the last time you did a thorough security check of your property? Since COVID, many people are spending more time at home looking for things to do. Now is the perfect time check for ways to improve your home security.

Below we’ve created a checklist to help assess your home security and stop burglars entering your home.

Do your entrance doors have working locks installed?

Check the locks on all doors that lead into your home and make sure that these are functional and are working. These doors would include your front door, back door, garage door and any side doors that lead directly into your home.

Test each of these doors with your keys and make note of any that aren’t in good working order, see if they’re loose or wobbly, are the keys ‘clicky’ when you turn them in the keyhole, does the latch or bolt easily lock in to the door frame?

Do your windows have locks that work?

Check to see if the locks on all of your windows are working. Entering your home via unlocked or fragile windows is a popular choice for crooks.

Do you have keys for each window and do they work correctly? Make sure that your windows are sturdy and secure.

Do you have working motion sensor lights?

Do you have motion sensor lights on your property? If you don’t, then you’re missing a great way to deter would-be thieves from attacking your home. Assess your property and find a good place to install a motion sensor light.

If you already have one, then check it’s working correctly and that it lights up the entrance doors to your property and driveway or path. Setting up your sensor lights so that it detects movement on your property as soon as someone enters is advised.

If need be, replace your light bulbs with LED lights.

Do you have security cameras?

If you have security cameras then check to see that these are working correctly too. It’s vital to ensure that the view of the camera hasn’t been impeded and that you have a clear field of vision across your property.

If your camera records footage, ensure that everything is being backed up and stored properly so that you can review the footage at a later date if required.
